Nick Messenger Rhetoric Comp 1 Paper #1 12:00 - 12:50 Dear Kafka, How are things in Prague? Things here at St. Edwards University are going pretty well. Anyway, I wanted to write to you about your story, “The Metamorphosis”. I feel that it was a great story and through it you were trying to illustrate the brutal treatment that homosexuals faced from the public in the early twentieth century and how the public today is more accepting of homosexuality. I would agree with you that the public was in fact more harsh on homosexuality than it is today, because in the early twentieth century there were never any reality shows on television and comedies on television about homosexuals, or any homosexual musicians. I feel that these reality shows and comedy shows on television, and homosexual musicians are the main causes for the public today to be more accepting of homosexual than in the early twentieth century. In your story, “The Metamorphosis” Gregor is a young man that has taken the role as the breadwinner of the family. One morning he wakes up and realizes that he has been transformed into a bug. Gregor is afraid to come out of his room for sometime, and for good reason.
