Women In Music Videos
Women in Music Videos “Sweat until my clothes come off,” “It’s getting’ hot in here, so take off all your clothes,” and “Baby don’t you wanna dance up on me,” are all lyrics from popular songs in today’s pop culture. These are just a few of the very many risqué lyrics to today’s most popular songs amongst teenagers. Not only are the lyrics very suggestive, but also some of the videos for these songs are downright raunchy. Popular music videos portray women in a very negative way. Music videos fling messages to young women that say that it is “cool” to dress provocatively and be promiscuous. Women are rarely ever showed in a decent and good-natured manner in today’s music videos, not to mention fully clothed. One video in particular would have to be Christina Aguilera’s video for her song “Dirrty,” the video itself could almost be considered a soft-core pornographic video. And then there is the second pop princess, Britney Spears, “all grown up” in her video for “I’m a Slave for You,” where Britney bears all. In addition to the pop stars of today, the rappers in the media also display women as just merely objects. One that sticks out in particular is Nelly’s video for “Hot in Herre.” Scenes in Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty" video contain images that are suggestive, sexy and downright lewd.
