The rich candidates can buy off voters -Mike Scully would take advantage of the workers’ financial situation and pay them in return for their vote. 3. Capitalism forces people to be evil in order to survive. -Jurgis was forced to live a life of crime because he could not afford to support his family. B. INDUSTRY: 1. Industries are run by corrupt upperclassmen who can destroy a person’s life if he doesn’t like them, and the lives of the workers are at the mercy of the boss.
