Scarlet letter essay
Scarlet letter essay The scarlet letter was a harsh punishment, but how would it stand in today’s world? Times have changed and how the way we look at things. The puritan society was a strict, almost too strict, as some people would say. Life in the United States has come along way with forgetting about every day morals and what would be considered a sin is now an everyday thing for most people. Hester lived a normal seamstress life, working in the New World as with everyone else. Coming to the New World alone without her husband would have seemed all right until she became pregnant. She was shunned as if she has killed someone, jailed and branded with a letter A to show her sin no matter what. Women of the time did nothing more then to do their best to make here feel worse. Everyone around here turned their back and left her in shame. In today’s world, women are looked up to, have much more rights and are respected just as much if not more a man. Adultery is not something to be proud of but by no means a reason to be but to death. Under the circumstances with Hester, people would understand that she did not love her alleged husband and would support her, not point and laugh.
