Tennyson in "Ulysses" presents a theme that speaks to the reader's emotions. Ulysses intends to get ever drop of substance and experience from life before its too late. He has the human desire to go where no one has gone before, to experience the enchantment of adventure before he is too old. Tennyson stresses to live your life to the fullest potential. In his word choice, the poet emphasizes his purpose in life is "to sail beyond the sunset…" The poet instinctively struggles to achieve what no one else has, to break from the "one equal temper of heroic hearts." He believes that we are "made weak by time and fate, but strong in will," and that "it is not too late to seek a newer world." The poet believes that through passing generations we have conformed to be one.
