Halo: The Fall of Reach
My favorite part of the novel Halo: The Fall of Reach is the whole process of training that the young children go through. They are just 75 ordinary children about age six, but they are the very first “super soldiers”. The military stronghold Reach is the training ground for these soldiers. Code-named SPARTANs, these highly advanced warriors, specially bioengineered and technologically augmented, are the best in the universe—quiet, professional, and deadly. It is interesting to see how humans lived their lives in the year 2500, and how they created these SPARTANs to protect Earth from an alien invasion from the Covenant. They go through lots of training, and I like the obstacle course. They use ropes and swings and other objects to reach the bell. The first team to ring the bell wins the game. The one team that finishes last gets no dinner. They embark on various training missions where they have to work together to survive. The young SPARTANs also gain lots of knowledge in their classes, and they become very intelligent humans as they learn about history, math, science, physics, and more.
