Henry David Thoreau once stated in his piece, Civil Disobedience, “Governments show thus how successfully men can be imposed on, even impose on themselves, for their own advantage” (146). What may be justice to some may be unjust to others. When a word is used in a certain context often enough, it can take on a whole new meaning. One such casualty of the English language is the word "justice." According to the Merriam-Webster Online dictionary, the word justice means, “the quality of being just, impartial, or fair”. With that stated, who or what determines what is “fair”? Aristotle, who wrote, A Definition of Justice, discusses the idea of justice being an external quality that the individual should try to uphold.
