Hazing in American sorrorities and Fraternities
Have you ever thought about pledging a sorority or a fraternity at a college or university? True, pledging a sorority or a fraternity is part of the collegiate experience, but has many disadvantages often not spoke of. One seldom hears about the torture and humiliation the pledges endure during initiation, as well as the tragic incidents that occur. Do Americans believe these initiation pranks are innocent and harmless? Are they all in good fun? While the majority of hazing cases go unreported, there have been several incidents where pledges of sororities and fraternities have been severely injured or even killed. In recent years, hazing by American social groups has caused disastrous and often fatal outcomes. Richard Swanson, a student at the University of Southern California, was one of the eleven pledges of the Kappa Sigma House instructed to consume quarter-pound slabs of raw liver.
