Some students feel alienated by the dominant society, especially in high school when the ways of this society are reinforced. At this time students are expected to behave more like ‘adults’ of the dominant society. The only way for Indigenous students to escape this is to drop out. Also, some Indigenous students are pushed out because the teachers lack the knowledge and skills to teach Indigenous students in a way which is relevant to them.
