Come along with me as I take you to my eighth grade English class. Just before you get ready for another ordinary vocabulary lesson, guess who strolls in, rolling a baby grand? Billy Joel. Yes, it’s the piano man himself, but instead of standing in front of a lectern, he sits in front of a piano. Imagine his teaching technique! First, he gets the students pumped up with a quick warm up song, “Big Shot,” and then he begins the class with a brief history lesson with “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” This song covers the major events of the 1950’s and was inspired by a former student of Billy Joel’s who said that growing up in the 1950’s was boring.
