Wish You Were Here I view the music industry as a machine in which the youth are sucked in and told exactly what to wear, what to look like, and who to be therefore counterfeiting their own individuality. The album “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd conveys my views on this vampiric industry in which we so blindly follow perfectly. The music industry is known for its habit of changing an artist’s music and look to satisfy that of our public. The second song, “Welcome to the Machine” elaborates on this idea. The second verse goes: “Welcome my son, welcome to the machine What did you dream? It’s alright we told you what to dream You dreamed of a big star, he played a mean guitar He always ate at the steak bar He loved to drive his Jaguar So welcome to the machine” These words to me say, that no matter what you have in mind for your music career, we (the music industry) will shape your dream into something that is fake, materialistic, and has totally nothing to do with your self-expression through music.
