In Sophocles' Oedipus The King, Oedipus' early death would have been less painful for everyone. If the servant would have left the infant to die, the cruel actions he cast upon others wouldn't have taken place. Oedipus' father, King Laius of Thebes, suffered the fate that Apollo intended. The fate of King Laius' destiny had an impact on the entire city of Thebes. King Laius abused a young boy and was given a terrible fate by the God, Apollo. Apollo warned him that he would have a son that would murder him and marry the Queen. In fear of his fate, Laius tried to avoid having children. Queen Iocaste was unaware of what Apollo cast upon him and she wanted children. She got King Laius drunk and she became pregnant with baby Oedipus. When the child was born King Laius had his men to pin the baby's feet together and abandon him in a field to die.
