Billy Buckner Passion for Teaching Paper September 29th 2003 Intro. To Teaching Mon. 6-9p What makes a passionate teacher? There are many qualities that make up a passionate teacher. The most important quality would be the desire to impart knowledge on future generations. The love of working with children is another. Some other things that make a passionate teacher could be, wanting to do a better job than the teachers who taught us, the reward we feel when we make a child proud of his or her accomplishments, some one who challenges their students, to learn something about ones self, the need to never stop learning and perhaps most of all to be a positive influence in the lives of others. When ever I tell people what I am going to school for, the people who know me say “That makes sense, you would be a great teacher.” I often wonder what the reason would be that I would make a great teacher. I possess above average intelligence and I am very personable and my desire to see people succeed probably factor in to that. I want to be the teacher that all of the students say, “He’s the best, you have to take his class.” In all my experience as a student I have had very few teachers who would qualify as passionate teachers. 90 percent of them seemed to be just going through the motions collecting a paycheck and waiting for summer. More than a few times when I have talked to teachers they say “You know what the three best things about summer are? June, July, and August.” To me those people are in the wrong profession.
