City & Guilds ASSIGNMENT First floor extension to semi-detached house Section 01 Quality assurance 1.A · The equipment must be suitable for the job, and only used for the operation to which it is suitable. · Employers and self-employed must take into account the working conditions and hazards when selecting equipment and any additional risk posed by the use of that equipment. · Protecting against specific hazards such as falling articles, overheating and explosion. · Equipment must be maintained in efficient working orders. B · Appoint competent people (either from inside his organization or from outside) to help him devise and apply the measures he needs to take to comply with his duties under health and safety law. · Provide his employees with information they can understand about health and safety matters. · Make sure that his employees have adequate health and safety training and are capable enough at their jobs to avoid risks. · Place duties on employees to follow health and safety instructions and report dangers. 2.A Cash flow: buy materials as it is needed (just in time), negotiate discounts by early payments/bulk purchasing, arrange interim payments e.g. ask the customer to pay a bit each month instead of all at the end of the job. B Efficient use of labor resource: utilize equipment more effectively e.g. hire but not buy, use specialist labor, plan and programmed work, use qualified person. C Effective inspection and testing produces: inspection and test as job progresses, not when job is completed because if you don’t you’ll have to take things to bits to test, also use competent staff. 3.A The action that should be taken, is for the work to be requested as addition work the correct procedure for this is called “architect instructions” or an “A I”, it is an assessment of time and materials to carry out addition work which must be agreed with the main contractors.
