Wrapped Up I did not expect to get an A for my first paper in Non-Fiction Writing Seminar last semester. After all, my genre tends toward fiction. What I didn’t have coming was HIM getting THE A. Jake* was my seatmate in that class and in the previous meeting exchanged papers with him for critiquing. I liked what he wrote about losing his religion and finding it in his girlfriend. Romantic, I thought, but boring. I complemented it but said quite a lot about his style being dragging and his point somewhat lost. It was a pretty average paper for me yet he got the praises and recognition. I was left with a bloodied paper and a B minus. That was just one instance. When he started to top my Psychology and Science 10 classes as well, I started to ask people, “Who the hell is he?” Why was I shocked out of my mind?
