One hundred of six hundred children in this reformatory were ten to fourteen years old. They shouldn’t be in a reformatory but in a industrial school because their offences were trivial. One of the boys were Ha’penny. He was an about twelve years old waif. He invented a family because he didn’t has one. He regularly wrote to Mrs Maarman who he assigned as his mother but she never replied because he wrote to her as mother and she wasn’t his mother nor did she wish to play such a role.
