Salinger, 214 pages Main characters The Catcher in the Rye is the type of book that has very few main characters, but has an enormous amount of characters of lesser importance. The entire storyline revolves around the life of a 16-year-old teenager by the name of Holden Caulfield. Holden is quite a popular boy among friends and acquaintances but he seems to have trouble finding someone who he can like entirely. He always manages to find something bad about someone. He finds faults in even his closest friends and voices them throughout the novel. Also, Holden is not a good student.
