The Film Industry Film as an art blossomed in the 1920s and in to the 1930’s becoming a favorite entertainment in American and World culture. The demand for films had dramatically grown, its future importance become evident. The world had no clue what was in store for them on the “Silver Screen”. The ten-year period, between the end of world War One and the Stock Market Crash, allowed Film to grow tremendously. The studio system, created during the 1920’s. Long-term contracts for stars, block bookings, and increasingly rigid control of directors and stars by the studio's production chief became part of the everyday Movie making business. Big films now had big money supporting them. The Five Major Studios named "The Big Five" included; Warner Bros. Pictures (est. 1923), MGM (est. 1924), RKO (est. 1928), Paramount Pictures (est. 1926), and Twentieth Century Fox (est. 1935). Other studios founded included; Universal and Columbia. Venues to support the films started popping up all around America, like the now-famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood in 1927.
