Death Penalty I heard a joke one time and it went like this: “Ya know, most states are trying to get rid of the death penalty… But Texas, is trying to make an Express Lane for it!” When one man kills another, should the murderer be allowed to enjoy something that he has stolen from another? There are many reasons why the death penalty should be applied. Three outstanding reasons are: it is the most powerful deterrent for murder, it is deserve retribution, and life in prison tends to deteriorate over time. If the death penalty is a deterrent and we execute, then we are saving innocent lives. This is one reason that the death penalty should be used. It is the most powerful deterrent against high crimes. Just stop and think about it. If you were about to commit a murder and the thought of the humiliation and execution that would follow your crime crossed your mind, how much more likely do you think you would be to commit the crime?
