At the beginning of the story “Going Home” we are given the feeling that Billy Woodward feels alone and out of place, when he is sitting in his new Kingswood he thinks to himself, “Oh lord oh lord, I want to go home.” In this essay I will be investigating the fact that like Billy Woodward in the first story, all the Aboriginals in the stories feel “out of place and alone”. “Going Home” the first story in this book of short stories tells the reader about Billy Woodward, a young Aboriginal man who has left his Aboriginal heritage to become an artist. From the opening page the reader gets a feeling of Billy feeling alone and out of place. He does not live the life of an Aboriginal man; he is no longer in touch with his heritage or the “river of his dreaming”.
