They were thrown in jail and it is here that Mandela says, “ A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but it lowest ones- and South Africa treated its imprisoned African citizens like animals.” One can not help but realize the validity of this statement. The initial incarceration served as a chance for former banned and unbanned members of the ANC to converse and share ideas. During the second day of preparatory examination the state in an attempt to further there humiliation the accuse and also alienate them from the lawyers erected a wire cage for the defendants to sit in.
