In a world in which tragedy and suffering are rampant, many Americans tend to focus on the relatively insignificant aspects of life. To often, they overlook the problems occuring in other parts of the world. In poverty-stricken countries across the ocean, families are starving and are consumed with fear over whether there will be any food that day. Not only are the world's impoverished denizens forgotten by most Americans, but their suffering is compunded by the buisiness practices of this country's large corporations. While we are certainly grateful for the convenience and low prices offered by America's huge superstores, such as Walmart, many consumers are becoming aware of the unethical means by which these mega-corporations obtain their goods. Large retail stores sell many hand-crafted objects at extraordinarily low prices. The majority of these items are imported from other countries where workers are paid shockingly low wages to labor over the hand-made goodies that we enjoy.
