Ida Tarbell
She Fought to Expose the Truth Throughout history people and their businesses have gotten away with exploitation and corruption. Some people chose to ignore the fact while some people decided to do something about it. Ida Minerva Tarbell was one of those people. She was a determined child and became one of the most well known muckrakers that ever lived. Her work in McClure’s Magazine and other famous publications she opened the public’s eye to the antagonizing truth that things aren’t what they seem. Ida Tarbell was born on November 5, 1857 to Franklin Tarbell and Esther Ann McCullough in Erie County, Pennsylvania. Her father was a man of all sorts having at one time or another been a teacher, farmer, river pilot, and joiner. In 1860, the Tarbell family moved to Cherry Run to quench her father’s thirst for oil. When she was twelve, her family moved to the bustling and booming city of Titusville. In her new surroundings Ida often skipped school because she knew that she would go unnoticed. Ida rarely received punishments because of her high academic diligence.
