Have you ever wanted to be able to watch as a flower blooms open in the first of spring? Have you ever wanted to be at the unveiling of great work of art? I had such an opportunity during my freshman year of high school. This opportunity came as an invitation to join my aunt and uncle at the birth of their son, my cousin. This experience gave me a bird’s eye view of the world of nursing and helped to influence my career goal. By participating in this event, I received something so precious that it will stay with me for the rest of my life. On February 28, 2003, I awoke with a jolt as the alarm clock blared out that it was time to get up. I got dressed, ate breakfast, and caught a ride with my Nanny to Humana Hospital in Orange Park, Florida. As I stepped into the hospital, the smell of overly sterilized rooms overwhelmed me. I was like a sponge, absorbing the new and exciting sites that I would remember forever. There were nurses dressed in teal and aqua scrubs, doctors in starchy over-sized white lab coats, and patients resting in their dim-lighted hospital rooms. As I touched the cool door handle, I felt a shiver of excitement run through me. Stepping into the delivery room, I noticed that the room looked very much like a hotel room.
