Raymond Kolbe was born on January 8th , 1894 in Zdunska Wola, Poland. He was the second son of Julius and Maniane Kolbe. The family was middle class and they lived in the small town of Zdunska Wola, Poland. That is where Raymond lived until he moved to Italy for his education. Where later he became a priest in 1918 and adopted the name Maximilian. Saint Maximilian Kolbe is the patron saint of journalists and he is celebrated on August 14th , The Feast of St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe. (www.consecration.com) Maximilian first recognized the call to perform Gods work at the age of 20 when the Virgin Mary came to Kolbe in a dream she was holding two crowns.
