James Dean Standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about a buck 40, who would have thought the profound effect a young man would place on American Society. This Man goes by the name of James Byron Dean. One of the most sought after actors in history to hit the big screen. James Dean revolutionized the title “Rebel Without a Cause”, and made a striking impact on teenagers during the mid-fifties. Rebellious, angst-ridden, troubled, and explosively sexual-yet also sensitive and almost innocent at times-he commanded the screen like few others before or since (Kehoe, 2001). Just getting into Hollywood super stardom with a little over a year of work on the big screen, he left the world with only three films. Forty-seven years later, rising stars are still hailed as the next James Dean. Who was this mysterious actor that left us at such a young age, and the image he portrayed on America till today. James Dean was born February 8, 1931 in a little town by the name of Winton, Indiana. His parents were Mildred and Winton Dean. He was an only child, but it didn’t change the attention he received from his father. Neglected by his father, James was very emotionally attached to his mother (James Dean, TNT). At the age of six his father moved the family to Los Angeles California to pursue his work as a dental technician. Three years later his mother would die of cervical cancer that would change his life forever. A couple days after her death, James road back with his mother’s coffin on a train to Indiana were he would stay and live with his uncle and aunt on their farm.
