Cardiomyopathies
Cardiomyopathies are diseases of the heart muscle, also known as the myocardium, where the actual muscle cells surrounding the tissues are sick. The disease is a heart condition where the heart begins to have immeasurable growth within the muscle. This growth can and may begin before birth when the fetus's heart is still in development. As a result of the growth of the muscle, the heart loses the ability to pump blood and causes irregular heartbeats. Although there is no cure for cardiomyopathies, it can be treated for and very manageable. The first condition of cardiomyopatheis was noticed in the 1950's by certain names such as Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM), Idiopathic Hypertrophic Sub-aortic Stenosis (IHSS), and Muscular Sub-aortic Stenosis, but it is now most recognized by Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). There are no pre-natal diagnosises for this condition. The disease is genetic and the inheritance is very common. Cardiomyopathies is almost always dominant when sighted. If a victim of the condition is in your family, the close relatives should be tested to make sure they are not diagnosed with the same illness. Research has shown that one out of fifteen thousand people in the United Kingdom are affected by this terrible condition. If a person is diagnosed with cardiomyopathies, certain common tasks should be avoided. Some of the tasks that should be avoided are: violent exercise, long periods of standing in hot conditions, and very hot baths/showers. Special monitoring during anesthesia is required for the condition.
