Remembering Uncle Howard All of us, regardless of what we chose to do with and in our lives, want to make a difference. We want to feel that somehow we have added color and texture to the remarkable tapestry of the evolving human story. We want to believe that what we contributed was unique and important and valued. We want people to affirm that what we stood for mattered to them, as well as to us; and that we lived lives with purpose, integrity, compassion and service. And, we want to leave a legacy – something uniquely ours – something that it is clear that our name was on. But perhaps our greatest wish, and often our greatest fear, is that we don't want to be forgotten. The collective presence of a loving family and caring friends who gathered to pay their final respects has assured us that Howard Simpson didn't have to worry about that; because what the heart once cherished, it will never lose. We know it is now time to let the physical dimension of our relationship go so that we can focus and hold in our memory what his life has meant to all of us and to each of us, so that we can indeed remember the gift his life has been.
