Schools and education policies of the past have been a major, perhaps the major factor in shaping the attitudes and experiences of Australians both Indigenous and non-Indigenous. Schools and policies of today do not stand alone as new and modern institutions. They are one of our oldest colonial institutions and exist today with a history and a legacy that informs us about relationships between governments and people as well as relationships between cultures and so-called races.
