From the first time I was given a science textbook, I knew what I wanted to be. Flipping through the worn pages of the third grade textbook, I saw some amazing pictures of the night sky. I knew then and there that I wanted to be a star scientist, an astronomer. As time went on, I became “star-obsessed.” I read science magazine and saved articles about new discoveries in outer space and updates from the space program. I decorated my room with astronaut posters and glow-in-the-dark stars, imagining one day I would touch one or discover my own. I even entered space camp contests, but I never won. My most memorable encounter with astronomy was my visit to the Benjamin Franklin Institute when they had their outer space display.
