The first Spanish Civilians came to Tucson from the San Pedro Valley. They built the first Church which was dedicated to San Agustin. The Church was financed by Father Fransisco Garces in the early 1770's. It was the First Church building in Tucson Pedro de Allande y SaaBedra was a noblemen born in Spain. He joined the royal army at age 14. He had been in the army for 22 years when he took the command of the Presidental Company of Tucson.
