1. Computer Mediated Communication: Is it Real or Unreal
Why do women go on-line for CMC? Why would their reasons be different from those of men?
People tend to say that women have fallen behind when looking at their computer literacy and use. In general this seems very likely but when looking on one particular aspect, the CMC (Computer Mediated Communication) some people argue that women are the heavier users of the two genders. So why do women go online for CMC and what separates them from males? When implementing the “uses and gratification theory” we find that there are 11 needs that might be satisfied by CMC (Perse and Courtright, 1993). According to one of the articles men are more prone to search for information and play power games, I also believe that they are more into CMC for the need for entertainment and to pass time away. Women on the other hand, I believe, are more likely to enjoy the personal part more, such as self disclosing, fulfilling the need to let others know they care and perhaps to have something to do with their friends.
