Bellerophon Bellerophon was a young descendant of Sisyphus, the founder of Corinth. When he visited the court of King Proetus of Argus, the wife of Proetus, Stheneboea, attempted to seduce him, but was rejected. She then framed Bellerophon by telling King Proetus that it was Bellerophon that tried to seduce her. When Proetus heard of this, he was outraged. However, he could not bring himself to kill a guest, so he sent him to his son-in-law, Iobates with a letter telling him to kill Bellerophon. Like Proetus, he could not bring himself to kill a guest, so he sends Bellerophon on a series of deadly tasks.
