loneliness
Loneliness plays a major role in the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Curley’s wife and Crooks are known as the loneliest characters in this book. Crooks is a black man and the only one on the ranch. The timeframe in which the story takes place is a time when many people were still very prejudice. He was often left out of just about everything the other men did and he was the one who always got in trouble or ragged on when anything went wrong on the ranch. This treatment left Crooks feeling very lonely. He didn’t appreciate the way he was treated but there also wasn’t anything he could do about it. He was a minority and blacks were perceived as lower human beings then whites so he wasn’t exactly “allowed” to stand up for himself.
