Beatles
The beginnings of the Beatles date back to Liverpool England in the late 1950s. Lohn Lennon bought a guitar in March 1957 and formed a group called the Quarrymen, named after his high school, Guarry Bank. The band consisted of younger classmate Paul McCartney, George Harrison and drummer Colin Hanton. Later on, Lennon’s art school classmate Sturt Sutcliffe joined the band on bass. He suggested the name the Beetles, referring to Buddy Holly’s group the Cricket. By that summer they were the Silver Beatles, but settled on the Beatles by August. Stuart Sctcliffe left the band to pursuer his art career and McCartney replaced him on the bass. In 1962 the Beatles were signd to EMI records and they replaced drummer Colin Hanton with local drummer Ringo Starrr. In 1963 the beatles recorded a 10 song record in one day, titled Please Please Please Me. The album went to number one in the U.K. and in November of that year released their second album with the beatles. By the end of the year the group had sold over 2.5 million albums in Britain. Two years later, Capitol records released their first American album, titled Meet the Beatles.
