Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson Emerson, one of the best American writers, has helped mold literature as we know it in America by connecting people with his beliefs. Emerson believed in the idea of Over-Soul or a spiritual unity in which each human being has an individual share. It is mainly what is in a person’s soul that sets him or her aside from the rest. Emerson believed that being an individual was a step toward recognizing God in us. Emerson’s ideas of being an individual and doing what you believe and not following in what others think and do. Emerson was a successful writer who put all his thoughts into his writing and connects with his readers in their life and how they look at things. The essays “Nature”, “Friendship”, and “Experience” all show Emerson’s view of things in this world that relate to me and other human beings. “Nature” is an essay that Emerson wrote to show someone how they are connected with nature itself. It shows us how a person can interpret something by themselves rather than what others say or did in the past. Being an individual means doing something else that other people don’t do. For example the way I do my hair and the way I drive or look at something makes me different then the person sitting next to me or behind me. Emerson also ties a human to God and nature saying God created Earth and that all of us are a part of God himself. In a way, Emerson tells us that we are like a plant in the earth except we rest upon God to guide us through our lives and help us grow.
