Societies can be good or bad depending on the characteristics that makes it up. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 shows an example of a society that is characterized by fast-cars, violent youths, invasive television programming, and intolerant special interest forms. Our society today is different from the novel’s society. We are more knowledgeable and wise. But although we may have some differences, there are still some of our similarities and most of them are based on our ignorance. One of the major reasons why the society presented on the novel and the society that exist in America today are much alike is the people’s ignorance towards life. Beatty conclude to Montag that the life of great quantity and instant enjoyment is the perfect way of living. Today, people rarely do work with no instant pleasure. Like a work with high paychecks, an award, etc. People in both societies engage in behaviors that makes them feel instant satisfaction like eating, watching TV or having fun. Like Clarisse, who was on odd one, some people like her in the society today, who are the outcasts don’t take pleasures or have fun in their lives.
