The cell cycle has one basic phase, and that phase has several sub-phases. That phase is called interphase. Interphase has four sub-phases they are G1 (Gap 1) this is where the cell grows and develops, S (Synthesis) where the chromosomes are implicated, G2 (Gap 2) the cell grows and develops some more, and the M phase (Mitosis), this is where the cell splits into two daughter cells. During the late interphase the nucleus geometrically well structured and bounded by the nuclear envelope; it contains one or more nucleoli.
