Negatives of Imperialism Paragraphs The Amritsar Massacre Imperialism can lead to unfair and brutal treatment of people under their rule. In 1858 the British government took control of India and its people. With this new power on a new people untouched by western civilization, they introduced new ideas and became strong controllers of the new civilization. Mohandas Gandhi, who was a peaceful Indian lawyer, was traveling to meet up with Indian nationalist leaders Kichloo and Satyapal to discuss a rally but ended up getting arrested in early April 1919. Their followers soon marched to the prison camp where the leaders we held to request immediate release but English soldiers opened fire, killing several of the protesters.
