antiago, a very determined and optimistic character risks his life in many death-seeking situations. As he makes his journey far out in the sea for the big marlin, he encounters many challenges and obstacles he’s bound to encounter and tackle. Santiago pushes himself to get through and never gives up. In a way, their was a religious side to him which made him unique in the book. He had the most courage out of all the fisherman. Santiago has shown he is considered as one of Hemingway’s code hero. Being a very determined fisherman, Santiago always gave it his all to fulfill his dream. He risked his life by setting out to sea with nothing stopping him. With nothing getting in his way of fishing, he encounters something that acts like treasure to him.
