genetically modified foods
Genetically altered food is being put quietly into our markets without proper labels, because there is no requirement (in the US) to label them. In US’s supermarkets, most food products contain genetically modified ingredients, and people are not aware of the contents of the food they consume. In America, people consume large quantities of genetically modified foods, but just until resent years people have started to be concerned about the contents of these kind of food. In some European countries, like UK, no commercial crops are grown and people consume almost none genetically modified foods, but the population is highly aware of GM foods. These are the numbers of the approved genetically modified foods in the US, Canada, and UK: · The US has the most approvals, with 44 genetically modified foods. · Canada has approved 42 genetically modified foods. · And the UK has approved 19, but only 5 GM products are been marketed. Even though it seems that there is not a large variety of GM foods, in the US and Canada, a large number of food in the markets that are not GM foods contain components of this altered food.
