Most critics say that postmodern films such as Drowning Mona are devoid of symbolism and deeper socioeconomic meaning. That this could not be further from the truth is demonstrated by the glistening repartee and subterranean post-cognitive symbols both hidden and over in the genius 1947 film by Pedro Almodóvar, "Drowning Mona". Almodóvar, born in France's difficult yet inspiring German occupation, shows his age and more than a little of his own personal baggage in the disorientingly sequential nightmare seens of the protagonist, Jean-Luc Picard.
