Without water nothing would exist. No you, no me, no grandma, no grandpa. Get the picture? Water is everywhere! It defines our planet. It is continuously involved in just about every process on this planet in one way or another. Water rules! The chemical nature of the water affects both the type and abundance of the organisms. The ocean or water is made up of only two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. So how exactly does something so simple create such big things? The polarity of water allows it to "hook up" with other molecules, including itself, expanding all over. Oceanographers define salinity as the amount of salts dissolved in seawater. It is said that the oceans contain every element on the planet dissolved in one form or another. There is even some truth to the statement that if the price of gold went high enough, the oceans would be the site of the next gold rush. Because water is a polar molecule, it is particularly good at dissolving molecules that separate into ions. Pressure is one of the ocean’s physical aspects. Believe it or not, while we’re sitting at sea level our bodies are being pushed down by 14.7 pounds per square inch of pressure.
