Poverty is the root cause of malnutrition. Poor families lack the economic, environmental, or social resources to purchase or produce enough food. Low wages, lack of work and unemployment, and rapid changes in food prices often place food supplies out of the reach of poor households Malnutrition is a dietary condition caused by a deficiency or excess of one or more essential nutrients in the diet. Malnutrition is characterized by a wide array of health problems, including extreme weight loss, stunted growth, weakened resistance to infection, and impairment of intellect. Severe cases of malnutrition can lead to death. Malnutrition occurs in people who are either undernourished or over-nourished. Overnutrition, the most common form of malnutrition in developed nations, and often it can lead to obesity, where there is an increased the risk of many diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis.
