“Letter to Emerson” Clearly Whitman demonstrates and expresses his passion and compassion for America. To Whitman the idea of being American is more than just a label acquired by inheritance ; Its the old virtue of patriotism and love for the nation. In the letter to Emerson, Whitman sermonizes almost with a sense of alarm the loss of the American ways, and he attempts to voice out that, it is the responsibility of the state and his fellow artist to reemerge and look to the everyday people for support of their country.
