Parental abuse and neglect are major issues in reality, because they can lead children to commit crimes. Today, parents may abandon their kids just because they were born handicapped, mentally retarded, or even ugly. Even if the children have parents, they can also be left unattended. The parents may leave for a long period of time for something work-related such as business trips. Or they may simply be home with their kids, but neglect to pay attention to their needs.
