The central conflict present in the Sidd novel is Sidd being happy with who he is and not someone he is trying to be. First Sidd is just his father unhappy son who feels his life is incomplete. Sidd then becomes a Samana which keeps him busy for awhile. When he decides he is unhappy he then travels to meet Buddha. When Sidd learns he cannot learn what he wants to learn from Buddha he travels to a modern town. In this modern town he becomes a business man who sleeps with a prostitute.
