It would be a gross exaggeration to say that the German statesman Bismarck was generally loved. Politics are, as we all know a difficult craft and Bismarck practised it with great skill and iron will. That is why he is often called the ironchancellor. In the 1860’s a lot of demonstrations took place, both in Great Britain and in France, whose purpose was to protest against Bismarck’s politics in Central Europe and of course, especially against the attack on Denmark. The demonstrators meant that it was extremely unfair to make war against a less populated country, even many of those who considered themselves to be Germanys’ true friends found it hard to morally defend this war.
