M·A·C (Makeup Art Cosmetics) was founded in Toronto in 1984 by make up artist Frank Toskan and his partner Frank Angelo. M·A·C was first available for retail sale at the counters in Simpson's Queen Street, Toronto, where they maintained 140 locations in Canada, USA, Europe and Hong Kong.Distribution outside North America has been facilitated by an international distribution agreement with The Estée Lauder Companies that bought 51% of the company. M·A·C first expanded internationally with opening an American outlet in New York city.
