My Dearest Vanessa, I hope you are doing good and not worrying about me getting hurt. I am fine, and I have done my best to get out of harm’s way! The rumours you may have heard about Gallipoli are totally untrue, it is very safe here and I thank you for sending me your mother’s cookies, I shared them out among my comrades; They loved them! I have been extra careful wherever I go (just in case), but I’ve been a little clumsy here and there, because I can’t stop thinking about you! General says I’ve been very brave lately, I’m extra pleased with myself, mainly because I might get sent on leave. Don’t be surprised if you find me on the doorstep!
